I was reading the article about Christmas spending. It says that Christmas trees can cost up to $56 in some areas, and it discussed non-traditional trees. Have you ever done a non-traditional tree? If so, what did you do?
When I was in college, I had no money or space for a tree. I wasn't going to be in my apartment for Christmas, but still wanted to decorate it for the holidays before I went home.
I took green garland, taped it to my wooden living room door, in the outline of a Christmas tree. I hung my ornaments (I made most of them from pictures from magazines, crochet, earrings, etc)
I had some friends who took heavy duty wire and bent it into a spiral, cone shape, added garland and lights, some ornaments and called it their tree. It was beautiful and very different.

When I was in college, my roommate and I took Christmas lights and wrapped them around a potted plant and called it our tree ;D
