Christmas time at my grandparent's little dairy farm was always special. It was the one time I got to see and visit with my aunt's and uncles, and have fabulous playtime with my cousins! One thing that seems special as a memory is how each Christmas Gram set up a little manger scene in her living room. My grandparents were poor, but one would never know it from how Gram could do things up so nice and tasteful. Anyway, this little manger scene was so nice, as it was in a real little wooden barn. In my child's mind, it seemed so appropriate that since Gram had a little dairy farm, her manger scene would be so real. She used real straw in the manger, with her little figurines of Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus. I thought I was the lucky one if I got to help Gram set it up. This neat wooden manger and barn, with real farm straw in it and I would place the figurines "oh so reverently" in their respective places. Fond memories, they do the heart good!

We lived next door to Grandma. What I remember was her sending a large box of sheets and towels etc. manchester for a gift for my Mum. She also had alot of holly leaves, they are not real though around the place. I also remember whenever she made a fruit cake it was always a very large one, maybe a foot square, definitely larger than 8". She always had boxes of dried fruit onhand at her place.

Today I was thinking about my paternal grandmother and how she use to come visit us in Michigan (from Maryland) some years for Christmas. She would always have her bags packed, not with her clothing but with gifts galore for us children.
I also have one memory of being at her small home at Christmas time. I can still see the tiny tree on top of her desk and wondering why her tree was so small. (she was widowed and lived alone)
Her cheeks were always rosey and when she smiled she lit up the whole room.
