Anyone getting a bit stressed and tired due to Christmas preparations? I'm not stressed but gettign very tired physically although I am not preparing any fancy Christmas things....We just have alot of things during this time of year. François' birthday nov. 3oth, Pierre's birthday, dec. 8th, My mom's birthday, dec.14...getting gifts ready, cooking some food, Francine's moving this year...
I have been hearing of ways to prevent becoming sick during the holidays. Often we catch a virus or bad colds during these times...We eat alot, lose sleep, celebrate, etc...and then fall sick...
I heard advice to prevent this by doing little things, which will keep us in shape and not too tired;
~like taking a walk everyday, even on Christmas day...to get some vitamins from the sun, if it's there or just being outside moving a little will help keep us fit for the holidays. ~eating enough fruits and vegtables, even if in this time we tend to over eat fattening foods. ~Try to go to bed 30 minutes earlier before the holidays, when you can ~drink lots of water ~take some vitamins
I'm going to do all of this and my major problem now is going to bed too late. I'll have to work on this.
Any of you starting to feel a little tired and stressed with Christmas around the corner?...

Being in Australia we can get tired or lose sleep at Christmas but don't often get sick I don't think, which is one good thing. I have the remains of a cough from a virus that I got three months ago!! I am just thinking about ds and arrangements for next year, and hoping dh will be less busy soon. Today is just the "I wish I didn't do dance concerts day"!!
I think it will go quickly, because of the birthdays, (we had one), etc. We have end of school things too, tomorrow I am going to see a school play, our daughter is part of the shepherd's group of sheep!

Good advice Lucie. Yep , girls, I am stressed too, but not from doing things, from wanting to do them. There is so much I can't do because of the eye problems. It is sure making me sad and wanting to do them. Oh well. At least I won't be worn out!
I think in December it is best to take it one day at a time, doing only what that day demands. I find it good to write things on my calendar and only do what that has to be done that day, and try not to look ahead.
Keep hanging in there ladies...

Yes, you are right about that. I used to think I did well to get to the 12th December, today is the 14th here and I am going well without too much stress. I think living here is a kind of peaceful thing for some reason.

Br, it's a good thing that you don't get too sick. I guess you have milder weather all year long...? That must help....I hope the rests of your virus goes away soon. Let us know how your dd went in the play! She is a sheep! How cute! Carolyn, I'm so sad to hear you are stressed for other reasons than preparing for Christmas. Why do you need to limit what you do? Is it because you can't see well or do you need to rest alot?....It must be so fustrating for you...I really hope your eyes get better real soon. (((((HUGS)))))

Viruses hit in Australia about August, and mostly everyone is well at Christmastime.
Today is the dance concert, Wednesday, two can can dancers and a funk? dancer. Tomorrow the sheep one. I think I have everything ready for the dance now, except maybe some hair inspiration. The teacher wants a bun that looks French with a bit of hair sticking out.

What helps me the most Lucie, is making sure I have my "quiet time with Jesus." I cannot tell you what a difference this makes in my day. And I can surely tell it when I don't have that time.
Another thing that helps me is to pace myself and make sure my priorities are in order. Easier said than done, but I just ask the Lord to help me slow down and think about what needs to be done on that particular day. After all, what enjoyment do we get out of the holidays if we're worn out and stressed when they get here? Or in the bed sick and run down? Another thing that helps me is NOT to get caught up in the frenzy. I stopped by WalMart today and I tell you, it was like a mad circus.....everyone running here and there, snatching and snarling at each other. It really made me sad to think that this is the way we celebrate the Lord's birthday.
As far as health, we drink lots orange juice, take vitamin c , lysol spray, wash hands frequently, use antibacterial hand gel.
Slow down, breathe and enjoy your Christmas. It will be here and gone for another year before you know it.
Hugs to you all.

Yep Lucie, here too. December is and has always been a very busy month, not even counting the holiday. Lets see we have 8 family birthdays and our anniversary this month besides Christmas! Yesterday was my nephews b-day and today is his sister's, my stepson's is the 16th and mine if the 17th, this week alone is just crazy! Add to it that my dad was in the hospital for over a week and just got home, it has been something else I tell you. Oh and Carolyn can't bend, lift, watch too much TV or spend much time on the computer or reading as she had emergency eye surgery last week. When you have eye surgery you can't do any of those things so quite some time. {{{Car}}} Thanks for the excellent advice. I just take one thing at a time and if it all gets done great if not, oh well! LOL

Sorry I missed your question Lucie. Deed explained it well. Thank you Deed. I had to laugh at myself, cause usually I am stressed from so much to do and doing too much and this year I can't do any of it so I am stressed cause I want to do it. What..you mean I want to be stressed ...LOL. Oh well, there is always next year.
I am making the most of what I can do. Sssshhh, don't tell anyone, but I bought the pre-cut cookie shapes and this morning dh and I baked and iced them. Then he had a handfull with a cup of homemade Christmas tea. Dh said they were good so I snitched just two with my lemon tea.
Ok, so some years ya just do what ya gotta do.

Wow, Dee, I see you are very busy in december! All those birthdays! I'm happy to hear your father is home. How is he doing? Thanks for the explaination for Carolyn's eye surgery. I suspected that was the reason, but wasn't sure. Carolyn, you enjoy those precut cookies with Hack. It's still Christmas cookies! Can you tell us how you make Christmas tea? ....

I haven't been near a busy mall/shopping centre or major chain store this Christmas. I live too far from them and haven't made the trip down there as yet. The children's presents came from a Christmas club, you get the brochure and choose gifts and then organise payment each week. Another one came from ebay.

Lucie, I will definitely share my Christmas tea recipe for you all. It is a tradition here in our home and we love it. Gonna go get the recipe right now and post it before I forget...Check for it in the Cookery section...
Yep Lucie, those pre-cuts were still holiday-ish..LOL. and easy I might add. I am going to make two kinds of dh's favourite candies tomorrow for him to take and share with his co-workers. And they aren't pre made...LOL
Good for you br. I decided that next year I am going to buy online and have them ship to address of recipient. That should save time...and my sanity.

I eventually did go to a mall briefly after a drive and also got two Christmas dresses to wear.
I found the stress came after Christmas a couple of days ago, someone mentioned at the table on Dec 25 why we haven't seen or rang DH's family in the last week, and if we have seen my step-children lately in front of our children who don't know them. I was OK, but with the heat, and two of the kids being away, you have too much time to think or feel a little strange IYKWIM.
