OK I have gotten a prescription from the doc for vitamin D for Daniel. Apparently the standard recommendation for breast fed babies is to give them this, since vit D is not transferred through breast milk. The doc did say he didn't think Daniel needed it, but since its a standard recommendation he would go ahead and write out a prescrip.
I filled the prescription but I haven't given it to him yet. I think he gets plenty of sun to make his own vit D and I am skeptical of the research since the vitamins are made by a formula company.....
Thoughts?

I wouldn't use it. Plenty of babies have been breastfed before this became the recommendation and were just fine. My guess is it is a combination of money maker for formula companies and combined with the fact that many babies are not going ouutside enough. but then y'all know I am pretty anti-established medicine compared to most.
Another thing is the old adage "If it ain't broke don't fix it"

Ditto what LoriT said. I didn't give it to any of mine and they never lacked anything.

Well my other 2 didn't need it, so don't figure Daniel does either. Its just hard, sometimes. We are so programmed to do what doctors tell us in this country.....
