Deana is a sophmore in HS. . . .yesterday was parent teacher conferences, and report cards for the first quarter.
Her GPA is 3.9057
She got all A's or A-'s Her lowest score in any class was a 92 and that was college prep English 2.
She's in the college prep curriculum. Some of her classes will give her college credit.
I spoke to all but one of her teachers. A few were confused as to why we were there . . . "Deana isn't having any problems in my class!" I just said that I wanted to touch base with them, and put names with faces (we have a bunch of new teachers this year) EVERY teacher said they wished they had more students like her in class. . . . the science teacher was afraid she was bored, as she's seems to get it very easily. The math teacher said she was a joy to have in class and her enthusiasm was "refreshing".
Anyway-- I'm mighty proud of her!
OH! And she's nominated for the National Honor Society.

Denise,
That is awesome. It is so nice to see our children's hard work validated. I'd be proud too!
Congrats to her and you too, Mom!

What year level is a sophmore Denise? She's in the 2nd year of high school (in a 4 year program) She just turned 16. This summer she's going to take some general classes at the local community college (probably take them online, to save gas money)

In Australia the first year of High School is Grade 7, so it is still a bit confusing.

Deana you rock girl!!! We are very proud of her. BR, in the states, our schooling lines up like this Elementary - Kindergarten (age 5) then 1st through 5th or 6th grade. Middle School - 6th-8th grade OR Jr High - only 7th and 8th grade Highschool - 9-12th Most areas have middle school (6-8th grades) but some have JR High, in which case the elementary school has a 6th grade at that school and kids only go to the JR High for 7th and 8th. Highschool in the states is 9,10, 11, and 12th grades only. Does that clear it up, or make it worse?

OK so Deana is in Year 10, which is what DS14 will be starting just before his 15th birthday next Jan/Feb. If he starts off the year like that I will be very pleased.
DS17 started Year 10 in a new school a much smaller one than he was used to and made new friends. At the end of that year he went to another similar school and make new friends again. In the meantime he stayed in contact with the old friends for awhile on messenger until he got settled. Now it is nearly finished. DH said he made good progress today for his exam tomorrow. They went to the air-conditioned school for a couple of hours to study etc. (Sunday).
The subjects DS14 has chosen for Year 10 are the harder Math, but he didn't want to continue his languages or music. He has good skills for story writing ie a vivid imagination and alot of TV and book reading, who would have thought?
Thanks so much for clearing that up Mel. I have asked before, my friend I think, it takes awhile. We have just introduced the middle school concept, Year 5-8 I think, usually split over two schools, although we are in a P12 or age 5-18, but still have the two school sites.
DD12 is starting High School next year, but that only means that she is in Grade 7 or Year 7 and is starting at the senior campus with her friends plus some children from the outlying areas that have finished school for the aged 5 - 12 or 13 year olds.
That is terrific Denise, she is making a good progress in her High School education.
