I have been wanting to make this for ages. I can buy dashi powder now, so that is an improvement. Maybe I need Bonito stock instead? Will have to check that out.
Any tips?

Making it from bonito flavoured stock (dashi powder) and miso paste was nicer to us than the instant miso soup in the little box. It only takes about 10 minutes. The miso paste is cute, it has like wilted spinach in the paste, and when it gets in the water it turns into quite large pieces of seaweed.
The powder went into the hot water, I think I put in about 12 cups of water. Then dh put the paste into a serving bowl and added some spoonfuls of hot water from the pot to the paste and mixed it and put it back in. Because the turnips was cut up fine it didn't take long to cook.
It tastes like a good homemade soup, not strange at all, great. What would be the perfect bread to put with it I wonder?
The soup was a no brainer in that we used one sachet of each thing.

br try a hard crusty type bread with it. I buy it here and it is multi grain and when you toast it is very good to dip with!
