It was dd's year 11 formal last night - don't ask me why they have one in year 11 and then again in year 12 - and thankfully I took a photo of her and her friends before they left, because she wouldn't go near the official photographer so this is all I have! She's the one in white, with the VERY dark spray tan. I have to say it's not the best pic, also she looks kind of odd, not sure what they did to her hair, not to mention the makeup that she had done. Anyhow, it all went well, although she's having a very long nap today... I've just noticed that our front door isn't shut properly and that I managed to photograph the hall table with all the junk on it!

She's a very pretty girl. They all look like they were ready to have a good time.
Our son had an 11 year and 12 year formal also. They are called Jr./Sr. proms here. He really enjoyed the jr prom but not his sr prom.
Thanks for sharing!

Oh, ok, so they do two proms there too, lynn. Eldest ds suggested that the year 11 one is a practice for behaving nicely at the year 12 one!
Eldest ds went through so much angst with the year 11 formal that I'm glad he had the year 12 one to enjoy. Younger ds missed out entirely. By the time he got to year 12 they'd changed to a parents/boys dinner. During the years between eldest and youngest getting to year 12, there was a series of disasters at the formals. Then, in the next year level up from youngest ds, the formal went ok but the non-school "after-party" resulted in a huge fight between boys from two different private schools. From memory a boy had his arm broken, police charges were laid, and the school my boys went to decided there would be no more formals. So the dinner was introduced, at a fabulous venue, with just the graduating boys and their parents. Younger ds was invited to a number of girls formals, which he quite enjoyed.
Anyway, dd really could have arranged things a bit better but she had a number of ideas fixed in her mind. Next time around we'll do things differently. She enjoyed the whole evening, and they had fun seeing how different everyone looked all dressed up!

The proms here can get out of hand easily too. That is one reason Jeremy didn't enjoy his sr prom. There were only 14 graduates in his class and not all of them attended the prom. Many that did were drinking, so Jeremy, his date and several others left. They actually took some pics of how some of the others were behaving and I have to say, I was quite shocked at how obscene some of those "upper class" teens acted. Never mind that many of these teens parents are community leaders.... ..and think their children would never do anything like that. I imagine the girls did have great fun seeing how every one else was dressed!

To clarify, lynn, they wear uniforms to school so the girls look very different out of hours. As for the upper class kids, tell me about it. We made the decision years ago to move to a suburb with plenty of transport, good infrastructure, nice but not huge houses, blah blah, and plenty of schools nearby. We chose a Presbytarian school for the boys, with which we were very happy, except that younger ds is very sporty so ended up on the "good" teams. Those teams are mainly filled with the wealthier kids, for whatever reason, so that's who ds spent a lot of time with. Most of them are perfectly lovely boys, just way wealthier than we could ever hope to be, but some of them....
