Whenever I stayed at my Grandma's as a little girl, when it was dinner time, she always served a dessert with the meal. It was usually something very simple. (the meal and the dessert!) She would simply open up a can of pineapple chunks and slice up a banana into it. We thought that was delicious and such a treat. Or, she would take and cut up an apple, add sliced banana to it, and make a little mixture of mayonaise, milk and sugar to coat it with. MMMmmmm! So simple, yet so good for a little dessert after a meal! Did your grandmother make any special little desserts you enjoyed? If so...share! Blessings~ Tammie

I never stayed at either grandma's very much. But my mom always had fresh fruit or some of her canned fruit for dessert.

Yes! Grams always made something for dessert. sometimes it was fresh flour tortillas with PB and honey with Ice cold milk, Fried tortilla wedges with cinnamon and sugar other times it was fresh fruit, hm ice cream or my favorite was she would mix strawberry soda and Orange soda ( a rare treat for us) and slice fresh strawberries and an orange section in it, and top it with some whipped cream man o man what a delight that was.

Going to my grandmother's was a feastful delight. She was a good German cook. She made us the best homemade donuts and my favourite was a dessert she called Deutch Cake. I wish I had the recipe for it..Looked all over the internet..
Anyway, those were scrumptious desserts

Wow, I didn't know I could get my stomach to start rumbling just by reading everybody else's responses!! LOL Just thinking about homemade doughnuts...mmmmm, and all the desserts you named Ellise, they sound great. Seem like simple ones with the tortilla's and such. Neat!

biscuits slathered with butter and honey were the most frequent "dessert"
fruit cobblers -- thick, sweetened fruit topped with biscuit dough
fry bread with sugar

Forgot to mention-- grandma always made me for my birhday. . . ..
Chocolate mayonaise cake with boiled chocolate icing.
My sis and I don't get along very well, but I happened to mention a few years ago how I missed that on my birhtday ( I said this in Sept. and my birthday is in Feb). Lo and behold-- on my next birthday, my sis showed up on my doorstep with a chocolate mayo cake with boiled chocolate icing! What a sweet thing to do.
