My dad. . . remember he has been disabled for several years. . . he decided today, that he was going to mow. WITH the tractor and pull behind mower!
He did fine. . . .until he was done and went to get off the mower. . . . he apparently FELL off the tractor, and hit his head on the way down. . . . he managed to get up and tried to walk the 15 steps to his wheelchair (he doesn't walk 2 steps on level ground!) and fell again. That is where my mom found him. . . .about 30 minutes later. . . . hat, shirt and ground soaked with blood and she's not able to get him up off the ground!
She finally managed to get Jake on the phone and got him out there to help get him in the house. . . they all assure me that he has just a small cut. . . no concussion. . . . etc. . . Jake's girlfriend and my sister (both CNA's) said he's fine.
Arggghhh. . . I'll never get my parents raised!

They don't own a cell phone, and even if they did- there is no signal where they live.
Dad is stubborn. We've all said for the past few seasons, that he'll mow himself under someday. Guess he just might at that.
Honestly, I'd rather have him die doing something he loves, than laid up in a bed- his dad was bed bound for years before he died. I just don't want my mom to be the one to find his bloody remains Shocked Confused

Denise,
Sorry to hear about your Dad falling. But your right, it is better for him to be stubborn and active than lay around. I understand you don't want your mom to find him though.

I completely understand your feelings Denise. I'm sorry your Dad fell and your Mom found him though. Even if it was only a scratch, head wounds do bleed a lot, must have been scary for her as she can't lift him. How about one of those walkie talkie sets? My brother and dad use them when they are hunting just in case because the cell phones don't work up in the mountains. Maybe that is an option for when he wants to work outside?

Denise, I am sorry to hear about your Dad's fall. How scary for your Mom to have found him like that. I think Deed's idea of the walkie talkies is a great one, my inlaws use them when they are our feeding or mowing for the very same reason.
I hope that he is feeling better soon.

Maybe that is an option for when he wants to work outside? Well, DUH for me! We have a set of walkie talkies somewhere-- we used them for hunting and for keeping in touch with the kids at amusement parks, state fairs, etc. We haven't used them in several years, as we use the cell phones for that now. I'll have to figure out where I stashed them!

That's fantastic. How great that you used them for going to the show/fair. I have been too scared to take our kids to the state fair.
We have a phone that works better than most in the mountains, of course it doesn't work everywhere. Even our CB doesn't work although we have an older one that would work. I will talk to DH about walkie talkies.

It wouldn't been quite so bad if he wasn't pulling a slasher would it? But head injuries do bleed alot. Good luck finding the walkie talkies.

Hope you can find them Denise. I know they saved my dad at least once while hunting.
