Been a LONG night and day

The hospital called around 10:30 last night and asked that all the family come in- FIL was not doing well. I drove dh, MIL and sis in law to the hospital and we stayed all night.

FIL was in considerable pain, in spite of a morphine drip. We tried to convince the nurses to increase it (the doctors had ordered morphine 1-20 mg/hr and it was running at 1 mg) but they wouldn't do it, because his respiratory status was compromised! So what? We realized it might kill him, but he's dying anyway! We just wanted him to be comfortable.

Then the attending doctor came in this morning and told my MIL that she should have given FIL a chance. . . . that by stopping the radiation therapy and chemo she basically had killed him. This doctor had not seen the MRI results, had not read the oncologist's notes, did not even know that FIL was on a morphine drip! So now MIL is feeling awful and second guessing herself. . . . . UGH!

Oh Denise.... I'm so sorry...what a jerk this dr. was! That was SO unprofessional!
I will pray for your fil so he can stop suffering like this....and for your mil so she can feel a little better and not feel bad about what this dr said. Hugs to you all.

I know doctors are busy, but they could at least take the time to read a chart before they open their mouths! GRRRR

I'm keeping you all in my thoughts Denise. I hope they increase the morphine so he can be comfortable.

Just talked to dh--- FIL now has the "death rattles", one leg is mottled. . . . Dh doesn't want me there. . . says all the family is there (guess I"m not family) I tried to tell him I wanted to be there , and that I could support him and his mom. He just says that his family is all there.

My head knows he's not trying to be mean, and exclude me-- but my heart is breaking. I love my FIL/MIL like my own parents. I even call them mom and dad!
