I'm back from visiting a fostercare home for my aunt Francine. Just for those who don't know, she is intellectually and partly physically handicaped. And she is an angel on earth. I wanted to share with you the good news. The new home seems very, very nice and the lady seems very organized and nice, from what I see. Of coarse last time, I also thought it would be alright and it turned out her care taker wasn't that good. I feel somehow happy, but alot of sadness because Francine will no longer be in the same day center for her activities. We have attached ourselves very much to her educators and all the friends Francine had there. It's been a little over 4 years that she has been there and they were wonderful for her. I know she will be into another great day center after she moves. I already know the new place and so does Francine, a little... I will be forever attached to *Atelier Altittude* ~the name of the center....I'll probably continue to make a visit every month and help out with their end of the year bazar and Christmas Campaign of selling Poissentias....the cause of these precious, precious angels is one that is imprinted in my heart. My heart is big today....and I'm sure when Francine realizes she will be moving she will also have a big heart...but it's all for a better life for her. Thank-you for listening.

Lucie,
Glad to hear that Aunt Francine will have a new care giver. One that is better for her and one that you can trust. I am sure she wll make new friends at the day center! You have a precious heart Lucie and Aunt Francine is truly blessed! Keep us posted as she moves in and begins to settle in to a routine. We care!

Thank-you Ellise and Carolyn. ((hugs)) I really apreciate your good words and care. Yes, Ellise, she will be closer to our home. It's still in the next town to ours but now where she is, it's a little further. I feel better this evening. I talked to the person responsible of the new center and it reassured me to hear all the activities they are doing there. She will be doing some exercise classes, stretching....they have weekly outings, they learn to do things to become more independant, and they have community cooking day on fridays just like she has now. There is more but I will get more information next week. Oh...I know she will be better in this new home. It definately will be better. Well, I'll let you know more as it goes. She is moving december 9th. Now...did I mention this before...?...sorry if I repeat myself. Thanks SO much for your open ear!

Dearest Lucie~ So neat to come across this update on your Aunt Francine as I was wondering how she was doing. I remember you talking of her situation last spring. I'm glad for you that you found a place you can feel comfortable sending her to. It means alot to know our loved ones are well cared for when they are in housing and nursing places like that. Glad for your good news and thanks for sharing with us!!

Thanks Tammie! You're right...it is very reassuring to know those we love are well cared for. That was my sadness lately, knowing whre she was living now---was not the best for her...this new place seems very good. Of coarse, time will prove me if we did chose a good place for her.

Hi Lucie, I am also glad to see an update on Aunt Francine. Everytime I see a post from you I think of her and her bowling shoes! I pray that the transition for her is an easy one and that she adapts to her new surroundings quickly. (((HUGS)))

I'm finally seeing some original posts about Aunt Francine. :-) How old is she, Lucie?
Here in NZ, there was a move maybe 20 years ago to start placing previously hospitalized mentally ill and intellectually disabled people into the community. Now, most - even some really hard cases - live with support in the community, in regular homes, with caregivers doing shifts. That's what I do. :-)
Why the need to change day programs, Lucie?
