Update on my dad....

Well he is still in the hospital and will be until minimum of Monday or Tuesday. Today is the first day they have let him have anything to drink, he has been on an IV all this time.

He now has a private room as he was grumpy about the other man leaving his TV on all night. LOL Late last night, sometime after 10pm, they took him down to the radiology department and put a pick line in. His doctor is out of town and the fill in ordered the pick line but forgot to order the nourishment??? DUH!!! So late today they finally hung a bag of that for him.

One of our nurses can better explain a pick line to you all. Personallly it is gross to me as it deals with more needles. ROFL

He still has his morphine drip for pain and they have been giving him something for nausea too.

He hasn't had a thing to eat in a week and not a drink since last Sunday night. My dad is already thin and can't afford to loose an ounce, so they need to get him eating again. Right now all he can have is liquids and jello, but hey it's something.

Took mom over to the hospital today while I did her grocery shopping and instead of cooking for her I had to clean the entire driveway of ice. My brother plowed it for her, but she couldn't even make it to the car 5 feet out the door. She is overweight and needs knee replacement surgery and has a terrible fear of falling, so she wouldn't go out the door without me to lean on.

They have a really loooooooooong driveway, omg I forgot how big it was! My back, legs and arms are aching now. LOL I made her stop at a restaurant for dinner, so I know she ate something decent today.

Tomorrow she is staying home to bake some banana bread and write out her Christmas cards. They don't have the valet parking on the weekend and she doesn't want us to have to go down and take her over there, so she is staying home and will just phone dad.

So, that is the update. Thank you all again for all your prayers and good thoughts. They are so very much appreciated.

PS. Think some good thoughts for mom too, as she may just bonk that old man on the head soon. He is grumpier than a BEAR! ;D

The poor thing. I lost my Grandma to what I beleive was a twisted bowel. My Dad was thin like yours for many years, he had some similar surgery this year, but he has picked up well. Hope they are all settled enough soon to enjoy Christmas.

I'm glad to hear things are coming along better. It is always such a stressful situation when your parents become ill. My parents were healthy all their lives so when they finally fell ill......it was very hard for me to get used to. My thoughts and prayers are with both of them and with you also!!

Thank you for that update, Deed. My dad went thru a similar experience a few years ago. He, too, was quite the grump....it took my mom, sister and myself to handle him!

Your parents are lucky to you have you, Dee. I will continue to pray for you mom and dad. I really hope he feels betterreal soon. It must be hard on them with the Christmas aproaching.... Let us know if there is any change. (((hugs)))

For those curious few, a PIC line is a kind of IV meant for extended use. It goes in your arm, near where your elbow bends and goes up your vein to near your heart. They sound terribly uncomfortable to me. A regular IV is suppose to be changed every 3 days. One of those that they put in near your chest with all the tubes has a greater risk of infection than the PIC.

Praying he gets some real food soon!
