My bil's name is Jon, and my fil's fiancee's name is Janice. You need that info for the rest of this to make sense to you ;D
The story about Jon's cancer has been changing since we found out he had it. I think part of it is problems in relaying the message from person to person (like the game Telephone that you played as a kid) and that the doctors just didn't know the extent of his illness.
Anyway, we got good news last night, and I asked Janice to tell us what had been going on (we were kept way out of the loop, and since I told a bunch of people about him being sick, I wanted to know exactly what was going on). Here is how Janice explained it to me:
"The way I understand it is this.... the doctor said because of the size of the tumor on his
appendix they had to go in to make sure there was no other cancer in his body. Since the appendix is
attached to the colon they removed half of his colon and reattached it together with no problem, and
no bag that we all thought he was going to have to have for a awhile. His body function should be
fine once he starts to eat, they are not giving him solid food yet. They also took some tissue
from his lymph node to make sure it had not spread there. All these tests came back NO CANCER!!!
He said he will be going home on Monday and that they have taken all his tubes out. He had a tube
in his nose draining fluid from his chest and because he could not pee he had a catarer in, all
these have been taken out as of tonight. He had to be able to pee on his own and they had taken the
tube out on Tuesday and gave him 8 hrs. to pee and he couldn't so they put the tube back in on
Tuesday night.
They have him up and walking and he needs to do breathing exercises to increase his lung capacity
because his lung had collapsed I think Tuesday night or Wendesday and they took him down for a
chest Xray. I am sure his smoking did not help with his lung situation but he seems determined to
quit this time I HOPE... That's all I know. I am sure he will call you guys with the good news
unless he thinks we will spread his good news for him which we have no problem doing. I hope that
helps because that't how I understand it and we were there when the doctor explained it before the
surgery. I suppose there was no other way to be absolutely sure he was cancer free because of the
tumor and the cancer they found with the appendix surgery."

So it looks like as of now, Jon is CANCER-FREE!!!!!!!!!
Just thought I'd share the awesome news!
