I brought him to the vet's today because he had thrown up a few times this week and wasn't eating. He just wasn't himself either...
So the dr. finds thread under his tongue. He's now in emergency surgery to remove the thread. Best case scenario is that it's a short piece of thread and can be pulled right out. Worst case is that it's wrapped around his intestines and could be "cutting" them as it can act like a knife when in their bodies.
I am so sad and can't stop crying. I won't know how he is until he wakes up and they call to let me know what's going on.
I'll post when I hear from the doctor.

Hoping to hear good news about Joey after 9 AM. The had to make incisions in his bowels because the thread was wrapped up in his small intestine. Poor little guy...I will be devastated if he doesn't make it.

I called this morning and spoke to the dr's assistant. Joey is doing very well and is resting comfortably. He had a slight fever this morning (102.8), but she siad that's to be expected. The doctor was in a meeting when I called, and she was supposed to call me between 11 and 12. This place is making me nuts with telling me that they'll call and then not doing it. I am just so relieved that he made it through the night. Poor little guy. I'll call in an hour or so if I haven't heard from them. Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts!

Oh no, Michelle! I just saw your post... Poor little guy! A thread in his tongue...did they need to cut him in the intestines?..... You know, Michelle, my dr's secretary has a cat and once she had to take him to the vet, because he had swallowed a sewing needle.... they were able to get it out with surgery and it had cost her alot of money.... it's scarey to hear that our pets can get very ill like this...have you heard, also about Christmas shiny strands...? Apparently it's dangerous also for cats to swallow...it wraps in their intestine jsut like the thread...just lettign you know in case you put some in your Christmas tree.... I'll be keeping Joey in my thoughts. Prayers for you, Michelle. (((hugs)))

Lucie, thanks...I did know about tinsel on trees (thanks), and yes, this is costing us a small fortune. Before they did the surgery they gave me an estimate of $1100. Dave is not an animal lover, so this is hard for him to understand (spending that much money on a pet)
Lynn, thanks for asking. Here is the update I emailed to friends & family yesterday:
Visited Joey today, but we weren't allowed to stay as long as yesterday because he was too hyper around us. We brought his favorite food, treats, and a fleece top (the camo hoodie that Dee made for the girls) with the girls' scent on it to put in his crate. The IV needs to come out tomorrow, so the dr. is most likely going to send him home even if he hasn't eaten there. The hope is that he'll eat when he's at home and most comfortable. I will need to watch him very carefully, and we have to gate off the stairs because he's not allowed to climb them for a while. I don't know how we're going to keep him from jumping over that. If we had a bedroom downstairs, I would probably just hole him up in that room with the door closed (and with him for most of the time--with his food, litter box, etc), but we don't, so it's going to be very hard... We'll see what happens...he sure did look super adorable today ;D
I am supposed to call this morning. I am nervous about bringing him home because he loves to jump (he's not supposed to right now), and he's very active. He's not supposed to take the stairs either, but he can jump over the baby gates that I have put up there. I really don't know how this is going to work, but we'll see.

Another update lol He's coming home today ;D ;D ;D I may need to force feed him using a syringe, but he's coming home, and I can't wait to have him back. I know the girls will be ecstatic when they get home too! Just hoping that he'll continue to improve, not need any more surgery, and not drive me crazy trying to jump on everything! LOL Thank you all for listening to me go on and on about him and thank you for all your prayers and well wishes too
