Talked to Doug today

He's excited to be almost done in CA-- although not too excited to head to FL in the midst of Hurricaine Wilma.

He told me he was named squad leader. I'm assuming that's a good thing, as he was pretty excited about it.

Denise, YES! being named squad leader is a very GOOD thing, in most "higher ups" in the military, they only choose those whom they think will make it up through the ranks. It means he is responsiable for the ENTIRE squad! so if they mess up then he's got to find out why, when, and how then report it to the Drill Instructor, and figure out how to deal with what happened. I'd say in about 3 years (once he makes E-5) he will be a Squad Leader all the time, sounds like your Doug has a strong mind and a level head on good solid square shoulders!

Next time you talk to him send him a big ol Hoorah for me huh?

I was watching the coverage on the hurricane this morning and it seems to be moving at a fast clip across the state, so hopefully it won't be so bad.

He told me he was named squad leader because he took a bunch of guys on a drill and snuck up on the teachers who were "snipers". They "killed" the snipers. . . the teachers said it was the first time they'd been killed by the students!

Doug says it was no big deal-- he just used his paintball experiences
