Thank you for posting this, especially the information about sc which I have been struggling with.

I have printed out the bit about sc and will attempt it shorty. I have pulled my bookmark and am starting again. The sc is the first row.

Oh dear braidedrug, your sc may be called something else as I know some of the other stitches are different from American ones. Do you know of an Australian crocheting site with patterns I can look at so I can make up a chart for you and others that want to learn?

Hope you use the expression "same boat" meaning same situation.

Thanks for the site! Yep, we use "in the same boat" too. ;D
Just as I thought, the American sc is known as a dc if you are using an British or Australian pattern for your bookmark. I think it is made the same, just called by a different name is all.

If your pattern is for a 'filet crocheted" bookmark, yes generally you do a row of sc (or if an Australian/British pattern a row of dc) as a base to build the rest of the pattern stitiches on.
