Homesteading is a new word to me. I learnt it on the net not that long ago, maybe Australians don't use it, not sure why I didn't know that word.
What does the word mean to you?

The Family Homestead is a great site with lots of information on homeschooling and homesteading. She sure does sum it up beautifully.
Homesteading to me is making the best of what you have, where you are....no matter if you are in town or on a 100 acre farm. Homesteading to me is planting and harvesting my garden and enjoying it's bounty all winter, it's making meals from scratch to give my family healthier meals and "stick to your ribs" cuisine! Homesteading to me is hanging my laundry on the line to dry and loving the sight of it as I go about my day and then crawling into bed at night on freshly line dried sheets....the scent is unbelievable! Homesteading to me isn't about knowing it all, it's about learning as you go and doing what you are comfortable with. I love to sew and quilt now where years ago I never thought it possible. I have huge gardens (flower/vegetable/fruits) which I love and have learned over the years what will make it grow better and better each year. Homesteading to me is about simple living, not less work, it's actually harder but living a simple, down to earth life. Realizing what is truly important in my life and in that of my family's.

Heather, that was beautiful. You and I are on the same page. We also follow a simple lifestyle....what was that old saying? Wear it out, use it up, make it do or do without?

For me, homesteading is a dream. Its some land and some animals and a garden and self-stustainment/sufficiency. Getting back to the land and back to the past so to speak.
Although homesteading can be done anywhere. City, country, suburbs, etc. I have heard that saying before, Lynn and I think its perfect!
