This sounds like a great event. Does everyone know about it? I imagine there might be fliers in Walmart.
I don't take my kids near water anymore. Now that they are older we could start again. Last year our then 13 year old and some other members of our family stopped by the road to look at a creek. Next thing he slipped on a rock and fell into the creek. Fortunately he went to a camp at Mt. Bogong and learnt some rapid clues from the staff, with a helmet on.
We did take my step-children to all those sorts of activities. It is a shame my boys haven't done much of it.
