Hi everyone, the year is flying by isn't it?
Today we had some nice overnight rain. We have begun to water so maybe it will help. The sunflowers are growing really well.
I have had fun looking at chicken coop sites.
Our basil is ready to be planted out. Our soil here goes like a rock, so before the rain it was starting to crust up. I have some calla lilies coming up for summer.
The girls have been taking the dog for more frequent walks and they are able to do this quite late these days.

Hi BR! ;D Yes indeed the year is flying by! Where you are going into summer, we are headed for winter. YUCK! Since the 7th of this month it has rained every day! We got hardly any rain all summer and now we are getting it all in one shot it seems. Guess it is better than snow or we would be snowed in! My garden is done producing for the year now, still have to go out and put it to bed if it ever stops raining long enough. My mind is now on Christmas and gifts I need to make or buy. I have my mom, dad, niece, nephew, brother and sister-in-law all figured out. But don't have a clue what to get my sister, mother-in-law and Jack. I still have a bit of time but not much. Good thing I can do crafts fairly fast as I will probably (knowing me) come up with a last minute idea for something big. LOL What is going on at your homestead?

We really need to get our winter squash, okra and collard green seeds in. I haven't had them before. I think a pumpkin came up by itself which is great. What day is Thanksgiving this year?

Hi ladies!
Last night we dug up our carrots and will store them for over the winter. They are so sweet this year. We'll dig up the turnips in a few weeks, they need a good frost on them first.
BR, it will be so interesting listening to you describe your summer as we are going into winter.
Dee, I've been thinking Christmas and have some projects done but many more to complete.
My day today is baking this morning along with book work. This afternoon it's back upstairs to declutter, move furniture and clean to get ready for major wallpapering. We are moving all our rooms around. The boys will move into our room, we will move into Delaney's room and Delaney will move into the boys room...confusing but it'll work with the space. The room we have now is very large but you must walk through our room to get to the hallway with 2 rooms off it (one to the right and one to the left) DH and I want more privacy and I want to make it a little haven where I can shut the door and just "be". I'd like the boys to have more space where we can take their bunkbeds apart and they can have their own space as well. Delaney is moving to the room at the back of the house and she his excited as it looks over the fields where her horses are.
The next few weeks I'm going to be wallpapering away and switching things around and I'm so excited about it.
We are getting sunshine here today after a dull, very windy day yesterday. Temperature this morning at 9 am is 40 degrees....brrr!
Have a wonderful day on your homesteads ladies!

Our room is a little like that. It has two doors and everyone likes to go in one and out the other. I can kind of relate to the room thing but not knowing the ages of the kids it makes it harder. Our boys shifted to a large study and got room between their beds around age 14 and 11 I think or slightly younger.
I don't like going into autumn myself. So last autumn I was reading about spring in the US and seeing tulip tickers and I found it hard. This time it is just hard to imagine having all that fruit and vege around. Not too many months ago I was right into it and making pumpkin cookies with the pumpkins from our garden, but that is all forgotten now. I think it is all the rain we had.

Good Afternoon Homesteaders...
BR I think that Heather's children are...16, 14 and Delaney is going on 9. Correct that if I am wrong Heather.
Good to hear what everyone is doing on their homesteads. I love hearing about the harvest and gathering in for the winters and the talk of putting the garden to sleep. Ah yes. As most of you know I lived the first 48 years of my life in Michigan, where it is cold and snowy and I miss that so much, so I am ready for winter, bring it on.
Deed, did you say Christmas ..yikes. I do think I should start planning and making..I just don't seem to have the energy these days nor can I think about what I want to buy everyone. I know I must get on the ball though.
Dh is off today and we are working in the computer room. We are finally going to finish putting up the wainscoting today. Yippee. Dh is out cutting the strips now and then I will help him put the construction adhesive on them. Next will be the primer coat of paint on the wainscoting and then a couple coats of Americana Navy on it. That will only leave the chair railing to be cut and painted barn red. Then I can put up my wall border above all that and be done with the walls. That will only leave the flooring. Can we say, I see light at the end of the tunnel.
Well gals, have a happy Thursday on your homestead. Hugs to all!

We did a big swap I think when the eldest was 17 and a few months. Then he didn't want his brother in there nearly straight after. I hope your boys bedroom goes much more smoothly.

BR.....I think there is a whole lot of chaos before the rooms will be settled. Last night it was fun though, the boys and I were going through there room and finding all the wonderful little toys as little boys AND they were still arguing...."It's mine..no, it's mine!!" LOL
Kody is 16, will be 17 in January....Dylan is 15 and Delaney is 8 1/2. (Thanks Carolyn!)

I think our son had a year of being in his own room at the rented farmhouse and it was hard to go back to sharing. The farmhouse was huge. The agent knew we had five children and suggested it to me. There was a a bedroom that slept 6 people with three built in bunks, another bedroom that slept two people with one built in bunk, our room, the babies room, and a ballroom. Our eldest slept in the ballroom. It even had a floor for the band to set up on. When we went there there were alot of blackberries and horse poo around, I guess we were the only ones prepared to clean the yard up. It was fun there.
