I would love to make my own butter but trying to get the fresh milk from the farmer's now is like pulling teeth in this area.

BR hopefully Denise will jump in here as somewhere I read where you can make butter in just a jar. I looooooove butter, and would like to try my hand at making it too. And don't forget candy molds like this for fancy butter pats for a special dinner or even every day. www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=ch0220

We made butter in a jar one year.....seems like we poured heavy cream or maybe half and half into jelly jars and shook and shook and shook........was lots of fun for the kids.

Yep Lynn is right. Heavy cream into a small jar, like a baby food jar, and keep shaking!!! Kids love it and then you can add a bit of herbs to it also.
Have fun!

Here is a recipe I found online.
Ingredients: 1 empty quart jar with tight-fitting lid 1 pint heavy whipping cream Pinch of salt (optional)
Directions: Pour cream into jar, leaving a space at the top to allow for shaking.
Shake jar until chunks of butter start to form, about 15 minutes you'll feel and hear the "clumps."
Pour chunks and liquid into a strainer positioned over a bowl.
Sprinkle butter chunks with salt if desired.
Candy molds can be filled with butter to create festive pats of butter for the tea party.
Put the filled molds into refrigerator, pop out when hard.
