Good article. I too find that trips to the mall, catalogs and magazines wake the sleeping "gimmee monster" in me. I have to watch myself at stores like Wal-mart as well. Its just too easy for me to enjoy that brief "get it now" satisfaction that I get when I buy something new. Since its hard to but that "monster" back in its box, I have to be careful not to go places that make it want out.
Hope that made sense. lol

I've just finished reading this article and I have to say, she hit the nail on the head. I think when we shop excessively, to the point that we are in trouble because of our shopping habits, it is a sign of discontentment. I know when I worked, the more I made, the more I spent. And the sad part, is, I could always justify it. Or so I thought. I think contentment is something we have to seek thru prayer. It has been for me. I now enjoy those simple things much more than a day at the mall. Put me in a crowd, spending, and I absolutely panic. I buy nothing unless I absolutely LOVE it. Another thing that helps me is to separate my wants from my needs and how long will my dh have to work and sweat to pay for this? Maybe that's old fashioned, but it works for me!

That was well written.
I was cured so to speak in 2003 when we had two houses at once. I also have little shops here. Ebay has also lost its appeal.

I struggle so much with this. My first husband was a horrible money manager. He used to sit outside my work on payday (we didn't get paid until 2 PM) and wait for my check. He had to do this to cover the checks he had kited all week. I never had any money.
Growing up my Daddy never said "I love you", but growing up during the depressionmade him want to give us everything. In short I learned to equate loves with things.
During tough times, when I am feeling unloved, I know I try to fill that empty spot with stuff. I am so trying to work on this.

I'm praying for you.......{{Cheryl}} It is so hard, I know. But remember Phillipians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me."
And this one, Romans 8:37, "Nay, in all these things we are MORE THAN CONQUERORS, through him that loved us."
