Serves: 4
Classic spaghetti sauce just like 'mama' makes. Serve sauce over spaghetti with shavings of fresh parmesan cheese.
2 tsp olive oil 1 onion, finely chopped 1 tsp crushed garlic 1/4 cup tomato paste 14 oz can tomatoes, with their juice 1 tsp sugar 8 3/4 oz dry spaghetti 17 1/2 oz lean ground beef
Heat oil on high in a large deep skillet. Fry onion and garlic for 1-2 minutes. Add beef stirring constantly until well browned. Beef should be well cooked until no longer pink. Stir in remaining ingredients except spaghetti. When boiling, reduce to low heat, cover and simmer (cooking gently at a level where tiny bubbles rise to the surface) for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to packet directions. Drain. Serve spaghetti onto plates, top with meat sauce.
