What do you do to keep your school ager busy in the summer and avoid the "I'm bored" song? Seth loves video and computer games and would be happy if I let him play hours at a time all summer long. I have to make him go out to play. (sad, isn't it?) I have been meaning to work on some school skills with him, but so far our summer has just been crazy. I have spelling word lists from last year that he is supposed to practice (handwriting skills and spelling in one) plus we need to keep sharp on our math and reading. Hopefully this week I can get in a routine. What about you? What do you do or did you do when yours (children/nieces/nephews, etc) were small?

a long time ago when our children were small, we made a 1/2 day in the summer that was structured. The other half of the day they could do what they wanted. The structured day might be lessons such as swimming, reading by themselves, my reading to them, working on school skills, cooking, making dessert, etc. The rest of their day they could use how they wished, riding bkes, playing with friends, gong to the play ground. Our tv was never turned on during the daytime. They were allowed a couple hours in the evening for tv. The exception to this rule was Saturday morning cartoons and breakfast in front of the tv.
