I'd like to hear what others do as far as chores/ allowances for thier school age children. Do they have some responsibilities thet are expected to do and NOT get paid for? What is the going rate for allowances? Our nine year olds have been extremely helpful and productive lately, they haven't asked for it, but we'd like to do an allowance.

School age? Hmmm. . . trying to remember what I expected from mine at that age. . . .
dirty clothes to the laundry hamper
clean clothes to their dressers/closet (I generally did the laundry and folded the clothes)
took turns doing dishes
took turns taking care of the various animals we have
straighten/vacumm/dust their rooms- took turns with main living areas of the house.
weeded garden in season

I gave up on the allowance, as I wasn't able to give it in a timely manner! It was too hard to organise for me.
