Katie will be turning 8 on 1/27. We can't afford to do any kind of party like her friends have, but she still wants one.
So, we decided to book a room at the church ($25 to cover utilities and it is tax deductible) and have a backward's party.
I found a site online where I can print off invitations that are written backwards and have to be read in a mirror. The kids come dressed with their clothes on backwards. We serve the cake icing down and eat under the table.
We are going to play "pin the donkey on the tail" and backwards musical chairs - you walk when it is quiet and sit when the music comes on.
Katie is really excited. I am making the cake (maybe cupcakes) and we are having pizza since it is from 6-8 pm, but it should be a pretty cheap shindig.

Our daughter hopes to have her first party soon, she will be turning 9. They all had a 9th birthday party but that was all. One of her friends also recently had her first party ever at home, it was a 9th as well.

Cheryl, sounds like tons of fun and very creative. I don't think kids have to have a large, expensive party in order to have fun. I am betting the gals will love love love it.
