That is a lovely site Mel. Our 12 year old daughter's class grew a herb garden and possibly vegies in 2004 for math. I also watched Jamie's School Dinners on TV, that was great to watch. It has also made me aware that kids don't always know the names of the fruits and vegies. We don't have school food in Australia. I have heard I think they have it in MN? We do have tuckshops, unfortunately they are getting more into installing Coke vending machines. In our town they try to sell hot meat pies and things in the winter at school. What I remember about Jamie's school dinners is the kids going out to see the vegies growing I think and cooking some themselves and it seemed to help. www.channel4.com/life/microsites/J/jamies_school_dinners/index.html

We planted pumpkins last year and I'm sure this was great for our daughter Hayley in particular, she is 9. There are some out there now, hopefully we will get a few again to eat. Actually they planted themselves from the table scraps.

Hayley grew her own sprouts last week. She did a good job.
