Well, I have just found out that my dd (Elizabeth) may not get to start Kindergarten this fall. Apparently its an Alabama state law that you must be 5 before Sept 1 or 2nd in order to start that year. She won't be 5 until Sept 28th. Here in Tennessee, they have until the 30th, so she would squeak in under the cutoff. I may have to see about getting her tested and getting some sort of exception (if they do those) because I and her pre-school teacher feel that she will be to bored in school if she waits another year. Oh the joys of moving.....

Aww Mel, I am sorry. You know what though, I think children should wait until they are 6 to start kndg. I just think 5 is too young. But if her preschool teacher thinks she should go perhaps Alabama might wave the rule. Will you be near to bamamama

Oh Melody. So she went to preschool then won't be able to start school in a new State? Hopefully they can see sense in letting her start.
Our son was 14 days short of the cutoff. It used to be further out once. Our other son was 6 weeks older than him and they both have had pressure to be kept down. Our daughter who is 18 days older than the second hasn't had that pressure, so maybe girls are lucky that way.

Sorry about that Mel. I know how you feel. Our cutoff is even sooner--July 31st, I think. Lauren is in kindergarten now and is so bored! In a way I am glad she's in kindergarten and not first grade, though, because she is so shy that going earlier would have been too hard on her I think. Good luck with your dd. I bet they do allow them to test out. I hope it works out the way you want

That's too bad, Melody. I hope you can do something about it, especially if you think she is ready for school.
