Well, I survived! LOL! It was fun and not too too awful. It was hot and sticky, but we got a cabin that was a bit closer to everything this year.
We left on Monday morning, and stopped with the entire crew at IHOP for breakfast. Then on to camp. The other 2 moms and girls riding with me were our cabin mates, along with 2 other Moms and their girls from Forest City, NC. We all got along great. One of the other Moms is 47 and last baby at 44!
We normally have 2 counselors in a cabin. The girls are either in high school or college. But, we ended up with only one. Beth is going to be a junior in high school. She is a missionary kid and one of 8 kids. She was awesome, and the girls loved her. She was a bit overwhelmed because she was supposed to be the assistant. Our other counselor apparently was very sick and off having some testing done.
Monday was check - in, get settled, lunch, missionary time, pool, free time, canteen, dinner, chapel, unit night (where all the cabins in one unit get together), devotions and BED!
We were up at 7 AM on Tuesday and off to breakfast. We then had Mother Daughter quiet time and devotions. Crafts was next - where the moms and girls decopauged a wooden box together.
Canteen for snacks and drinks, and then off the hear one of the missionaries speak. Lunch, and the rest time (yay!).After rest time the girls got to choose one activity from a list to do for an hour. Katie and the other girls in our cabin from our church chose paintball & slingshots. It was so hot the paintballs kept popping when we tried to shot them from the slingshot. But, we had a ball!
Then our pool time and free time were back to back so we got to stay at the pool for 2 hours. After that we had Mother Daughter time. They gave us a jewel box (like a CD comes in) and a little sheet of paper. We walked around the camp collecting things and made a shadow box by putting them into the case. Katie found a butterfly wing which was so cool to add to her picture.
By then it was time to get ready for dinner. After that we had chapel. Then the canteen was open and we took our snacks and drinks to the campfire. We headed back to the cabins a 9 PM. The counselor got the girls ready for bed and the Moms went to Moms night out. They had tea and coffee and cupcakes for us. They played music and sang and had devotionals. It was very restful and nice. Then back to bed.
This morning we got up and packed up. Breakfast and then quiet time with our girls. We were sitting in a gazebo not far from our cabin, and I saw something fluttering in. I thought it was a butterfly, but it was a tiny baby bird! He must have just been learing to fly. You could hear mama in the tree cheeping for him and he would cheep back. She finally came onto some branches near us and we could see her. I am sure she came and got him after we left the gazebo.
One of our church group had to get home a bit early, so we skipped the closing hour and headed on out. I am exhausted, but it was fun! I came home a promptly took a 3 hour nap while DH has had the girls at the pool! LOL!
I took pictures. I'll post them later.
