2 1/2 cups uncooked old fashioned oats 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 cup finely chopped nuts 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 cup shortening 1/2 cup butter or regular margarine 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp vanilla Preheat oven to 375° F. Lightly grease cookie sheets. In a bowl, combine oats, flour, walnuts, baking soda, salt, cinnamon. Set aside. In a mixer bowl, cream the shortening, butter or margarine, and the sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Gradually beat in the dry ingredients just until combined. Drop by level tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on the cookie sheets about 5 minutes then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
