1 1/4 cups flour 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 cup butter or margarine, at room temperature 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 1 large egg 1 tsp vanilla 2/3 cup coarsely chopped pecans 2/3 cup chips: semisweet, milk chocolate, butterscotch,peanut butter, vanilla milk, or a combination Heat oven to 350° F. Mix flour and baking soda. Set aside. Beat butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla in a large bowl with electric mixer until well mixed. Mix on low speed, gradually add the flour mixture. Beat just until blended. Stir in the coarsely chopped pecans and the chips. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 11 to 13 miutes or until the edges are lightly browned. The tops will feel soft. Cool the cookies on the cookie sheets for 2 to 3 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
