Great menu Denise. Do you find that you save money by planning ahead for meals. I do make a menu but only week by week. I was wondering if I planned further if I could save money doing so?

I do save money-- we do much less eating out on the spur of the moment. . .
Plus,I buy now whatever loss leader meats, etc that I can find. . then will use them next month or so in my menu plans. . .
I'm not at the mercy of the current sales and find us eating chicken every night of the week.

Would you think about doing a tutorial on shopping once a month and how to save money doing so for us??? Sure would love to do that ...

I'll try to do one later in the month--- before we leave for San Diego in Sept, but after all the wild stuff gets over here I don't necessarily shop once a month---depends on the loss leaders each week. I just do the menu's once a month. I"ll explain it all when I do the tutorial.

That would be great Denise, I know I have a lot to learn in this area. It would sure be a big help come dinner time every night to know what I'm making in advance rather than just winging it!

Sunshine, how do you do your sloppy joes and ribs? Keep in mind they are fairly new to me as I am in Australia, we have made sloppy joes once, and ribs a few times in recent months.

Sloppy Joes
* 1 pound lean ground beef * 3/4 cup chopped onion * 1/4 cup chopped celery * 1 large can (15 ounces) tomato sauce * 2 tablespoons quick-cooking rolled oats * 1 teaspoon seasoned salt * 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce * 1/2 teaspoon chili powder * 1/8 teaspoon black pepper * dash Tabasco sauce or cayenne pepper * 10 to 12 hamburger buns, split and toasted
In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and celery until meat is browned and onion is tender. Drain off excess fat.
Stir in tomato sauce, water, oats, seasoned salt, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, pepper, and Tabasco sauce.
Simmer, uncovered, until mixture reduces to desired consistency, about 25 to 35 minutes. Spoon about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of ground beef mixture into each bun. Makes about 10 to 12 sandwiches.
Ribs:
1-2 lbs pork ribs rub well with following spice mixture
# 2 Tablespoons Non-iodized salt - heaping # 1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder - heaping # 1 Tablespoon Onion Powder - heaping # 1 teaspoon Thyme - ground, heaping # 1 teaspoon Sage - rubbed, heaping # 1 teaspoon Paprika - powder, heaping # 1 teaspoon Black Pepper - ground, heaping
Grill over hot coals until done, about 4 minutes each side.

Wow, thanks sunshine. I cheated with the sloppy joes and used taco sauce. Then we had shredded lettuce as the recipe suggested and the blended cheeses. Then we added pickled beets and mayo and enjoyed them.
The ribs were a recipe a friend from MN gave me with sauerkraut, the first time I had tasted sauerkraut. We also had cooked ribs the Chinese way and had them on rice. You cook them in the oven covered with water and then add the sauerkraut about an hour later I think from memory, I recently found a recipe for them in the pot instead and then an added recipe for finger noodles, the last ones were not so good.

Ellise, I noticed you do biscuits and gravy. I have recently tried them as well. I have nothing to judge it on but I thought they turned out great.

Here in the South they are a mainstay to most folks breakfast! Did you make them homemade or store bought? We do HM (Homemade) although my gravy comes from a packet try as I might my gravy NEVER turns out right
