...do you go out to make errands or grocery or just plain spend your money?
Do you have a usual routine on when you go out or it's just the spur of the moment decision?
My answer:
I go out too often. I stay home on mondays, but I am not very organized on planning when I do my grocery shopping or do my errands. Since my dh works week-ends, we are almost going out from tuesday to friday, driving here and there...I'd like to plan more...it seems we are spending alot on gaz...

I try to plan everything for 1 trip, Lucie. I live about 30 miles from a big city where I do most of my shopping. So it's just too $ for me to go more often than that. Only about 8 miles from the town where my dh works, but very limited shopping there.

Well, like Lynn we live in a very small town. If I am doing big shopping I have to drive at least an hour..so I save for those trips.
But here in town, I try to do everything in one trip. I make a list, start at the far end of town and work my way back to the house. It works well like that for me and saves time and gas money. Gas is up here again. Ugh

Lynn and Cara, do you get your groceries in the smaller towns? And just interesting and big stuff in the large town like I do? I like Cara have to go 1 1/2 hours for those things. No wonder you want to move Cara, it drives me crazy.

DS organised a friend to exchange or return a pair of jeans he bought down there but they were not quite going to where he wanted to go yesterday. We have two cities close together one in one State and one in another, they were going to the other one and didn't want to go across the river. He also gets rides down there which is nice. Next year he will be in shopping heaven if he has some cash that is.

I'd get sick of the traffic and parking etc. Lucie, and it gets hot in the car parks here. Although some places are working on that. Do you have much traffic where you are?
In our old town I did go out in the traffic twice a day, but only across town to school and back mostly.

BR, I do buy nearly all the meat at a local small family owned grocery store. It's much cheaper and much better quality than what I find in the "city". And in the summer, I buy lots of produce there also for the same reason. If I run out of something like tp, I just make a quick dash to the dollar store.
I like small town life. If I could I would live waaayyyy back in the woods. I don't like grocery shopping at all.....and have to be in the mood to do clothes or shoe shopping. I despise traffic, smog, and noisy city life. Not for me.
Gas is up here too.

Br, I do have a Super Wal*Mart here in town so I get my groceries there. We don't have a good mom and pop place or I would shop there for groceries. I guess the big W put t hem all out of business. When we lived in the country house and use to come to town monthly for a big order it took all day.
I go for special and big items when I go to dd's or when we can drive to Lexington or down to Tennessee, or over to Virginia or to Huntington, Wva. We border all of those places but all are 80 miles or more.

In the summer I too get my produce at local stands or from dh's relatives that have huge gardens.
I would rather too, to buy my summer annuals and plants from a man at the roadside that has the best flowers ever.

We don't have a super center here. Only 3 very small grocery stores and their prices are very high and very limited choices. The super center is about 30 miles and that's where I do most of my main shopping.

I am tempted to go 50 mins to get my food. It is hard to picture what you guys are saying, I guess it is a little busy here. We call our centre 1 1/2 hours away a regional centre. I get my vegies sent up from there, alot of people do it. He brings the bread as well, sometimes I get 28 loaves at once. We also get cordial, chocolate, pasta only two kinds and pasta sauce from this place. They stock a special brand of cookies as well, called Kookas after the bird the kookaburra.

too cool, BR! Kookas Cookies! Sounds like an all female rock band!! LOL I live in a little tiny farming town, BR. Actually, on the outskirts of it. If I travel south 8 miles, I am in a town a little bit bigger. It has 3 small stores that sell food. It's a typical small southern town complete with old plantation type houses, a small library, churches, etc. Population is about 10,000. But if I head north, in about 35 minutes, I will be in a big city, population about 100,000. There is lots and lots to choose from there. Shopping centers or malls, and a big Walmart Super Center. They carry just about everything at the Walmart Super Center. Imagine a place where you can get a nail gun, a ladies blouse and a watermelon all under one roof! It is huge. Prices are supposedly discounted due to the vast amounts of merchandise. As a result, alot of the smaller stores have had to close because they can't compete with these low prices. C'mon over BR and we'll show you around! Let me see if I can post some links for you!
